Investment can be defined as investing capital or money, in the aim to get profitable
returns, for example in the form of income, interest or value appreciation. It involves a company's or an
individual's choice, after analysis and thinking, to put or lend money in an instrument, asset or a "vehicle" if
you like.
This can be stocks, derivatives, (i.e. options or futures) commodities, bonds, real estate, currencies,
foreign assets denominated in that country's currency, etc., which gives the
possibility of returns over time. An investment involves the risk of losing the principal amount, if the investor turns
out to be wrong in his analysis. Some instruments can be highly risky to use.
